Re: What sort of elements do you like to see in a platforming le
First off, thanks to Ghados for sparking conversation for new members to work off of.
In a platforming level, I link to see some action like a challenge or some kind of cool thing that makes it interesting. You know something like while you are swinging across a gas pit the thing you are swinging on breaks and then you start falling, but some rocks fall and you land on them. That kind of stuff.
Also, as a Reviewer, I like to see changes in mood and music (which helps with mood) and like to see a variance in materials that fit the area and the mood of the level if possible. I also like to see detail, especially in platforers cuz I like them to be interesting and fun to look at.
Going with the first thing I said, I really think well worked out and new gameplay ideas are a necessity to a platforming level, especially if it is to become a hit. Gameplay makes a level interesting and fun because the player isn't used to it.
Ummm, sorry for that rant... I really like platforming levels

I like a challenging level but not to hard so everyone can complete it. Its good if you choose a theme and then find materails that go with that theme and by theme I kinda mean like backround. Good and varying music during the level is great. Lots and lots of sound effects. I love sound effects it makes a level a little greater. Also surprises. Like your walking on a platform and all of a sudden a big spiky wall is comng at you so you have to turn around. Then there is another way to go. You could also have little mini-games.
I think it is very important to create your own things. Like 25% MM objects and 75% your creations.
Go platforming levels.

When I play a level I like to see good pacing what I mean is no dead spots where nothing is happening . Also I don't like weak transitions from one element of the level to another.

I love bombs. Especially when you have to do things to avoid them cuz it adds a sense of urgency/suspense to the level.
